Top and Bottom Rules

Top/Bottom rules highlight the best or worst values: top 10 items, bottom 10 percent, above average, below average. In Excel: Home > Conditional Formatting > Top/Bottom Rules.

The idea is a comparison with a ranked value. LARGE(range, 3) is the third-largest number, so =B2>=LARGE($B$2:$B$7,3) is true for the top three. AVERAGE gives the line for above and below average.
