Dates
Excel stores a date as a number: the count of days since 1 January 1900, so DATE(2026,3,15) is a number you can add to or subtract from. Subtracting two dates gives the number of days between them. YEAR, MONTH and DAY pick parts out, and TEXT(date, "dd mmm yyyy") shows it readably. In this course's output a date cell appears as its day number so you can see the arithmetic; in Excel you would format the cell as a date.
In this course each line of an example is one cell: the address, a colon, then what is in the cell. A line starting with = is a formula. Press Run to see the sheet with every formula worked out.
What does subtracting one date from a later date give?
In C1 show the number of days from the start date A1 to the end date A2.
