Hypothesis Testing
A hypothesis test asks whether a result could just be luck. Start with the null hypothesis (nothing special is happening, for example "the average is 50"). Compute the p-value: the probability of seeing data at least this extreme if the null were true. A small p-value (below 0.05 by convention) is evidence against the null.
A p-value is not the probability that the null is true, and "not significant" does not prove there is no effect.
Examplepython
Quick check
A p-value of 0.003 means...
Your turn: write the code
Test whether the mean of these values differs from 100 and print the p-value rounded to 4 decimals.
Finish the quick check (and any code exercise) to complete this lesson, or mark it done yourself.
