The HTML Document

A complete page has a fixed skeleton:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
  <head>
    <title>Page title</title>
  </head>
  <body>
    <h1>Visible content goes here</h1>
  </body>
</html>
  • <!DOCTYPE html> tells the browser this is HTML5
  • <head> holds information about the page (title, character set, links to CSS)
  • <body> holds everything the visitor sees
